I read this quite a while ago, liked it, bookmarked it, and forgot it.

Well, when I finally got a spindle after a couple of disenchanting years with my wheel, I started spinning for socks again---and I ended up following your instructions almost to the letter, without remembering this piece at all! It made it quite a fun read when I stumbled upon it in my bookmarks, that's for sureMollyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03120165937428117931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8624177.post-71852647548475392102007-03-16T09:02:00.000-05:002007-03-16T09:02:00.000-05:00Another lover of handspun socks. I'm glad I was of some help, although it truly looks as though you have sock-spinning well in hand. Fitting took me a few pair, too - I finally ran across the 'negative ease' reference somewhere and it clicked. I often end up with socks that are not as tight fitting as I would like. I use the wool from my own sheep: Romney Corriedale or Romney Corrie Clun Forest crosses. I am getting a new ram soon, he's a finn and I can't wait too see how that crosses on my other ewes. I have pics of some socks here: http://Windyridgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18390232789014998792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8624177.post-62899014041879190082006-12-28T13:01:00.000-05:002006-12-28T13:01:00.000-05:00I spin with spindles almost every day, swanknitter...I spin with spindles almost every day, swanknitter - I can get as much done in a week on spindles as in a couple of hours on the wheel. And my spindles definitely spin sock yarn!

I'm not sure that overspinning is exactly what I mean - that word means different things to different people. You need a firmer yarn for socks, so the singles are spun with greater twist than if you were PJ Kitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02835001952770913494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8624177.post-21285988364172023962006-12-28T09:00:00.000-05:002006-12-28T09:00:00.000-05:00have you ever spindle-spun sock wool?I don't seem ...have you ever spindle-spun sock wool?I don't seem to be able to soin fine enough to make a cbled yarn for socks in my wheel but I think I might with sindle spun.Overspin and hoe for the best?Swanknitterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06801796808525538417noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8624177.post-44547298371105280882006-12-10T12:48:00.000-05:002006-12-10T12:48:00.000-05:00Thank you for sharing your knowledge of spinning w...Thank you for sharing your knowledge of spinning with us! I find myself currently in an insatiable phase of my spinning. The first year was just getting it, and driving myself to finer and more consistent wools. Now I am seeking knowledge to go with it - about wheels, about spinning itself, and about fibers and breeds and other sources of spinnable fibers.
